What Is the 500x500mm Rental LED Display (AF500 Series)?

A 500x500mm rental LED display is a video wall built from die-cast aluminum cabinets that each measure 500 × 500 × 84mm and lock together on all four sides, so any screen size can be assembled, dismantled and re-used show after show. The AF500 series is our rental-platform cabinet: one 500x500mm chassis carries eight indoor pixel pitches (P1.25 to P4.81) and five outdoor pitches (P2.604 to P5.95), pairs vertically with the 500x1000mm rental LED display (AF1000 series), and shares the same locks, handles and module parts across the whole fleet.AF500 500x500mm rental LED display infographic: 500x500x84mm cabinet, 8kg, indoor P1.25-P4.81, outdoor P2.604-P5.95, 3840-7680Hz, 15000:1, 12-16bit

📜 One specification, one number

Rental listings across marketplaces quote refresh rates anywhere from 1920Hz to 3840Hz, and some datasheets mix two values on one page. The AF500 series ships with a single published refresh band, 3840-7680Hz, on every pixel pitch, indoor and outdoor. What you read here is what the QC bench signs off.

Pain Points: 8 Problems the 500x500mm Rental LED Display Solves

Every feature on the AF500 exists because a rental crew asked for it. Here is the list, problem by problem.

Technician lifting and locking a single AF500 500x500mm rental LED display cabinet by hand during a fast load-in

Load-in always runs late

Travel fast locks close by hand; one technician lifts, hangs, locks and moves on. No tools, no hex keys, no ladder choreography between rows.

💧
Panels get knocked in transit

Protective corners on all four edges plus anti-collision bumps at the bottom take the hits that door frames and truck ramps hand out.

Engineer swapping an LED module from the front of an AF500 500x500mm rental LED display cabinet mounted against a wall

🔧
No rear access at the venue

Front and rear maintenance on every cabinet. A dead module swaps from the front in minutes when the wall sits against a wall or window.

Client wants a curved wall

The half-arc lock bends the wall in five steps from -5° to +5° per cabinet, so gentle curves and internal/external corners stay in-house.

Venue power is unpredictable

AC90-264V input rides through brownouts and venue power dips, and 200-300W/m² average draw keeps the distribution box order small.

How Fast Can You Install a 500x500mm Rental LED Display?

A 500x500mm rental LED display only earns its keep if the crew can build it fast. The AF500 hangs on a three-step cycle: lift by the top handle, seat the cabinet onto the frame or the row below, and swing the travel fast locks shut. Locking tension pulls the cabinet square against its neighbors, which keeps the load-bearing path stiff and the face flat.

Modules release from the front with quarter-turn module locks; power and signal use ring connectors that can only go back one way. The power box, receiving card and rear cover arrive pre-integrated, so a swap takes one trained hand instead of a workbench.

Red-grip handles sit on all four sides for two-hand carrying, and the same handle geometry repeats on the AF1000 500x1000mm rental LED display, so muscle memory transfers across the fleet.

Can the AF500 Build Curved and Creative Screens?

Yes. A half-arc lock sits inside each cabinet seam and steps the wall through five angles: -5°, -2.5°, 0°, +2.5°, +5° per cabinet row. Negative angles bow the wall toward the audience, positive angles wrap it around a stage corner, and 0° locks the wall flat with the same part.

Arc lock setting -5° -2.5° +2.5° +5°
Wall geometry Concave, tight curve Concave, gentle Flat wall Convex, gentle Convex, wrap-around

Beyond curves, the same cabinet supports lifting (rigging) installation, ground-stacking on seat mounts, cylindrical builds, and inside/outside right-angle corners, which covers most creative briefs a rental house receives.

500x500mm vs 500x1000mm Rental LED Display: Which Cabinet Do You Need?

Both cabinets share modules, locks and parts; they differ in what they do to your build schedule and your inventory.

Factor AF500 (500x500mm) AF1000 (500x1000mm)
Cabinet weight 8kg 14.5kg
Module layout 2×2 2×4
Cabinets per 12m² wall 48 24
Build speed for large walls More units to place Half the lift-and-lock cycles
Creative flexibility Finer curve steps, columns, totems, odd aspect ratios Best for wide stage backdrops
Narrow access routes Easier through stairs and lifts Needs wider paths
Interlock AF500 stacks vertically with AF1000 on the same frame — mix both in one wall

Rule of thumb: creative builds, small screens and tight venues favor the 500x500mm cabinet; big festival backdrops with a fixed aspect ratio build faster on the 500x1000mm rental LED display. Most rental houses stock both, because the two sizes interlock into one wall.

Indoor or Outdoor 500x500mm Rental LED Display?

The cabinet is the same; the lamp, sealing and brightness change with the venue.

Indoor build — P1.25 to P4.81
  • Brightness ≥600 to ≥1000 nits, tuned for ballrooms, studios and exhibition halls
  • GOB epoxy coating standard on P1.25-P2.604: the lamp face survives fingertips, trolleys and case edges
  • IP31 rating for controlled indoor air
  • P1.25 and P1.56 hold up at 3m for camera-close conference work
Outdoor build — P2.604 to P5.95
  • Brightness ≥4500 to ≥5000 nits to hold its own against direct sun
  • IP65 sealed front and rear — rain, hose-down and dust both covered
  • SMD1415/1921/2727 lamps in black-face packaging for the 15000:1 ratio
  • Color temperature 5000-12000K optional to match broadcast white balance

Viewing distance decides the pitch more than anything else. A P2.604 outdoor wall reads from 3-50m, a P3.91 from 4-150m, and a P5.95 from 6-200m; the indoor range runs from 3m at P1.25 out to 200m at P2.976 and P3.91. For fixed-install counterparts at these pitches, see our P3 outdoor LED display and P4 outdoor LED display collections.

How Does the Indoor 500x500mm Rental LED Display Survive a Power or Card Failure?

Broadcast studios, XR volumes and keynote stages are the one place a rental screen is not allowed to blink. For those indoor builds, the AF500 can be configured with dual power supply backup and dual receiving card backup — both failures are absorbed inside the cabinet while the show keeps running.

Dual power supply backup

Two power supplies share the cabinet load in parallel. If one unit drops out, the second carries the full load and every pixel stays lit — no black frames, no reboot cycle. The failed unit is swapped at the next service window instead of in front of the audience.

🖩
Dual receiving card backup

The secondary receiving card mirrors the primary card’s data path. If the primary card or its cable fails, the backup picks up the signal and the loop closes — the switch happens behind the image, not on it.

Both backups are configured at order time — add “dual power + dual receiving card backup, indoor build” to your quote request and we itemize the parts. On a 500x500mm rental LED display wall that lives on studio calendars, the option costs far less than one cancelled take.

What Does a 500x500mm Rental LED Display Cost to Run?

Power is the line item rental buyers forget until the venue power order goes in. The AF500 averages 200-300W/m² with a 600W/m² ceiling indoors (800W/m² outdoors), and accepts AC90-264V — so a 20m² conference wall runs on roughly 4-6kW of average draw, one standard distribution box feed instead of a three-phase rig.

Screen size Average draw Peak draw
10m² indoor (booth) 2-3kW 6kW
20m² indoor (conference) 4-6kW 12kW
50m² outdoor (stage) 10-15kW 40kW

Average = 200-300W/m²; peak = 600W/m² indoor, 800W/m² outdoor. Size the feed on peak draw; the average is what the energy bill sees.

Two more economics notes for fleet owners:

  • One cabinet, 13 pitches. Modules and cabinets are separate SKUs, so a P2.5 fleet can later serve P3.91 clients by swapping module stock, not cabinets.
  • Mixed walls without mixed parts. AF500 and AF1000 share locks, handles, modules and power boxes; only the chassis differs.
  • Stable power chain. Pair the wall with a sized LED display power supply and the draw numbers above hold in the field.

Factory and QC Behind Every AF500 Cabinet

Every AF500 order runs a full aging test before packing: cabinets burn in powered cycles so weak lamps, marginal drivers and loose connectors surface in our plant instead of at your show. Brightness and color are calibrated per batch so cabinets from different production lots sit matched on one wall.

As the manufacturer, we sell factory-direct with OEM/ODM service — logo, flight-case spec, spare-parts ratio and pitch mix are all configurable per fleet. Every shipment leaves with certification documentation: CCC, CE, RoHS, FCC, CB and TUV test reports.

How Much Does a 500x500mm Rental LED Display Cost?

Marketplace listings for 500x500mm rental cabinets currently span roughly $120-390/m², moving with pixel pitch, GOB coating and order volume; 500x1000mm cabinets quote per piece in the $465-680 band. Those numbers buy anonymous stock. The AF500 series is quoted factory-direct against your actual pitch mix, quantity and accessories — usually sharper than marketplace pricing at like-for-like spec.

Tell us the screen size, venue type and pitch preference, and the quote comes back itemized: cabinets, modules, receiving cards, power supplies, flight cases and spares. As the LED screen manufacturer, we control the BOM end to end.

500x500mm Rental LED Display FAQ

How much does the AF500 500x500mm rental LED display cabinet weigh?

8kg per 500×500×84mm cabinet with modules installed — light enough for one technician to lift, hang and lock without a second pair of hands.

500x500mm vs 500x1000mm rental LED display — which should I buy?

Buy 500x500mm for creative shapes, small screens, curved walls and tight access routes; buy 500x1000mm when big backdrops and build speed matter more. They interlock vertically, so most rental fleets stock both.

What pixel pitches does the AF500 series offer?

Eight indoor pitches (P1.25, P1.56, P1.95, P2.5, P2.604, P2.976, P3.91, P4.81) and five outdoor pitches (P2.604, P2.976, P3.91, P4.81, P5.95), all on the same 500x500mm chassis.

What is GOB and do I need it?

GOB (Glasses On Board) is an epoxy seal over the lamp face. On rental screens it protects SMD lamps from knocks and abrasion between shows; the AF500 ships GOB-standard on P1.25-P2.604 indoor modules.

Why does the 7680Hz refresh rate matter for filming?

Camera shutters sample the wall; at low refresh they catch banding and scan lines. At 3840-7680Hz the AF500 stays clean on broadcast cameras, high-speed shots and livestream rigs — the difference is visible in the first take, not in post.

Is the outdoor version waterproof?

Yes — the outdoor build seals to IP65 on both the front face and the rear cabinet, so driving rain and hose-down both stay out.

Can one person really install it?

The travel fast lock, four red-grip handles and 8kg weight are designed for single-person install, dismantle and maintenance; two people just move faster on large walls.

How are AF500 cabinets packed and spares supplied?

Flight-case packing is available per fleet spec, with spare modules, receiving cards and power boxes sized to your utilization. Tell us your show calendar and we will propose the spare-parts ratio.

500x500mm Rental LED Display: The Complete Buyer’s Guide

Rental LED screens converged on one cabinet size for a reason. Walk any exhibition hall, festival backstage or broadcast studio and the walls are built from 500x500mm boxes — sometimes alone, sometimes mixed with their 500x1000mm siblings. This guide explains what the 500x500mm rental LED display standard actually is, how the AF500 series implements it, and how to spec a fleet that survives real rental life.

1. Why 500x500mm became the rental standard

Three numbers made 500x500mm the default. First, 8kg: one person can lift, place and lock a cabinet without a partner or a forklift, which halves the crew cost on every load-in. Second, 500mm modules: a 4:3, 16:9 or custom-aspect wall lands close to whole cabinets, so floors and ceilings rarely need cut headers. Third, part commonality: because almost every rental manufacturer builds this size, spare modules, receiving cards and rigging frames are available in every major market — and the AF500 keeps that compatibility logic inside its own fleet by sharing parts with the AF1000.

The 500x1000mm cabinet exists to compress build time on large, simple walls: it covers the same area as two AF500s with half the lock cycles. The two sizes interlock vertically, which is why fleets, not single screens, are the right way to buy this product class.

2. Inside the AF500 cabinet

Open the rear cover and the AF500 shows you its economics. The chassis is die-cast aluminum: light for handling, stiff for flatness, and dimensionally stable enough that cabinets from different batches still meet flush. The fast locks are travel locks — they swing shut by hand and pull the cabinet square, so the wall tightens itself as you build. Protective corners wrap all four edges, and anti-collision features at the bottom take the scrape of ground stacking.

The power box, receiving card and rear cover arrive as one integrated unit, and every module releases from the front with a quarter-turn lock. That combination is what “front and rear maintenance” means in practice: a dead module swaps in minutes with the wall hanging against a wall, and a whole power box swaps from the rear when you have the space. On a rental fleet, serviceability is utilization — a cabinet that returns to stock the same day earns again that weekend.

3. Choosing the pixel pitch

Pitch is a viewing-distance decision, not a resolution vanity contest. The indoor range runs P1.25 to P4.81: P1.25 and P1.56 hold detail from 3m for camera-close conference and studio work; P1.95 through P2.604 cover the 3-150m band that most ballrooms and exhibitions actually live in; P2.976 and P3.91 stretch to 200m for arena side walls. The outdoor range runs P2.604 to P5.95, trading fineness for the brightness (4500-5000 nits) and IP65 sealing that weather demands.

Two practical rules. Rule one: budget the pitch on the closest paying seat, not the farthest, because up-close failure is what clients photograph. Rule two: remember the cabinet carries any of the 13 pitches — if your fleet grows, you add module stock, not a new cabinet platform. Fixed-install benchmarks for the same pitches are documented in our P3 outdoor LED display and P4 outdoor LED display collections.

4. Weight, rigging and transport planning

Do the truck math before the cabinet math. At 8kg per cabinet, a 48-cabinet (12m²) indoor wall lifts 384kg of LED — two people move it in a morning. At 84mm deep, forty cabinets stand in one flight-case layer. Rigging-wise, check three things with the venue: point loads on the truss or ground-support frame, the hanging frame’s pin compatibility, and whether rear access exists for the (rare) rear-service case. The AF500 supports lifting rigs and ground stacks on the same lock points, so one accessory set covers both.

5. Curves, cylinders and creative builds

Creative work is where a 500x500mm fleet earns its premium over flat-panel LED alternatives. The half-arc lock steps each seam through -5°, -2.5°, 0°, +2.5° and +5°, which compounds across a wall into gentle coves or tight wrap-arounds; cylinders and right-angle builds reuse the same lock positions. Because the wall is still the same cabinet, a curved XR cove on Tuesday converts back to a flat conference backdrop on Thursday — no dedicated curved stock sitting idle in the warehouse.

6. GOB coating and surviving rental life

Rental kills LEDs by abrasion more than by electronics: trolleys, case edges, cleaning cloths and the occasional guest finger. GOB (Glasses On Board) epoxy encapsulates the lamp face, and the AF500 ships it standard on P1.25-P2.604 indoor modules where the fine-pitch lamps are smallest and most exposed. The cabinet layer adds its own protection — corner guards and bottom anti-collision bumps — because between shows the cabinet takes the hits, not the wall.

7. Power, refresh and certifications

Plan power on 600W/m² indoor (800W/m² outdoor) peak and 200-300W/m² average, and the AC90-264V input will ride through venue power fluctuations that would trip narrower supplies. Refresh runs 3840-7680Hz across every pitch with 15000:1 contrast and 12-16bit gray scale — the combination broadcast shooters ask for by name. The certification stack (CCC, CE, RoHS, FCC, CB, TUV, IEC) covers EU and North American rental tenders without re-testing.

8. Pre-purchase checklist

Before signing a 500x500mm rental LED display purchase, get written answers to eight questions: (1) cabinet weight with modules, not empty; (2) refresh rate — one number, not a range between marketing and datasheet; (3) whether GOB is included per pitch; (4) IP rating front and rear for outdoor builds; (5) front-service availability on every pitch; (6) interlock compatibility with your existing 500x1000mm stock; (7) flight-case spec and spare-parts ratio; (8) aging-test and calibration reports per batch. The AF500 series publishes all eight in the tables above.

The bottom line: a 500x500mm rental LED display is the most liquid asset in the rental business — one cabinet platform, thirteen pitches, and a wall that re-configures as fast as the booking calendar. The AF500 series builds that standard with 8kg handling, a ±5° arc lock, GOB-protected fine pitches and a 7680Hz camera-safe face. Request a fleet quote with your pitch mix, and we will size the cabinets, cases and spares around your show calendar.
